Privacy Policy
We are covered by the Federal Privacy Act 1988 which came into effect on 21 December 2001 and its National Privacy Principles (NPP’s), which set out standards for the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal and business information.
Personal and business information is essentially information or an opinion about a living individual or business whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion (e.g. a name and address).
What personal information do we collect and why
We collect personal and business information to be able to provide our various services as Chartered Accountants and Business & Management Advisers. These services include Business Management, Cost Management, E-Commerce, GST, Information Technology, Marketing, Mentoring, MYOB, Performance, Succession Planning, Superannuation, Taxation & Accounting and Wealth Planning.
How do we collect the personal information?
We collect personal information either directly from the relevant individuals or indirectly from third parties.
We collect the information in personal, in writing, by email and by telephone. However, we may need to contact others such as Banks, Australian Taxation Office, past Accountants and other available sources, which is always performed with our client’s consent.
How we use and disclose personal information
We do not use or disclose personal information for any purpose that is unrelated to our services and that you would not reasonably expect (except with your consent).
Who will see or have access to your personal and business information?
Unless we are required to provide your personal information to others by law, by court order or to investigate suspected fraud or other unlawful activity, your information will only be seen or used by people working in or for Jaquillard Minns. These people include Accountants, Administration Personnel and our advisers such as Lawyers, Insurers and Banks.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up-to-date whenever we collect or use or disclose it.
If the required personal and business information is not provided, we or any involved third parties may not be able to provide appropriate service.
Security of your personal information
We endeavour to protect any personal and business information that we hold from misuse and loss, and to protect it from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
For example – We maintain physical security over our paper and electronic data stores and premises, such as locks and security systems. We also maintain computer and network security and other security systems such as user identifiers and passwords to control access to computer systems.
What we expect of you and third parties we deal with
When you provide us with personal information you have collected from other individuals, we require you to warrant to us that the information has been collected in accordance with the applicable privacy legislation and that we are authorized to receive that information from you and to use it for the purposes of providing our services to you. If it is sensitive information we rely on you to have obtained their consent to the above.
If you have not done either of these things, you must tell us before you provide the relevant information.
If we give you personal information, you and your representatives must only use it for the purposes we agreed to.
Where relevant, you must meet the requirements of the National Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988, when collecting, using disclosing and handling personal information on our behalf.
You must also ensure that your agents, employees and contractors meet the above requirements.
What if I want to check what personal information you hold about me?
Subject to any legal restrictions, we would be happy to advise you what personal information we hold about you if you request this. There may be some cost to you in providing this information if your request is complex or requires detailed searching of our records.
If you believe there are errors in our records about you, please let us know and we will be happy to investigate and correct any inaccuracies.
